Vintage Kookaburra Bell

SKU: 0543-11458160
The item is no longer available

A vintage bell that I believe was silver plated but now appears to be brass due to its wearing. It is engraved with the name  T.S.S Katoomba.  The bell was possibly used in the dining room of the ship,  S.S Katoomba.  It is approximately
12cm high by 8cm at the base of the bell.

I believe the S.S Katoomba was a steam ship built in Ireland in 1913.  It was used as a passenger ship around Australia until it was requisitioned as a troop ship in the later stages of  World War I.  It was returned to her owners in 1918 - 1920 but was requisitioned again as a troops ship in 1942 during World War II.  It was again returned to her owners in 1946 - 1949.  She was sold and renamed Columbia and was retired from service in 1950.  She was scrapped in Nagasaki Japan in 1959.

The bell would make a nice addition to a collection.
