Sustainable Resolutions for 2023

28/12/2022

At Salvos Stores, we're all about encouraging people to shop more sustainably and consciously.

However, we also know that completely changing the way you shop for the better is a challenge. One that will be more difficult for some of us than for others.

The impact of retail production and consumption on the environment is a big topic of conversation these days, and when you're constantly hearing about what's wrong with the way you shop, finding a way that is 'right' can feel overwhelming - or even impossible.

This is why we believe that the best way to move forward on your sustainability journey is by committing to making manageable, sustainable changes to your shopping habits. In other words, 'resolving' to take steps towards sustainability that will be achievable for you and appropriate for where you're at on your sustainability journey!

There is no better time than the new year to decide on your next sustainable resolution. However, to make sure that yours doesn't go the way of most new years resolutions (abandoned by February...), choose something small enough to consistently follow, yet significant enough to make a real difference.

To give you some inspiration for your sustainable resolution, the Salvos Stores Customer Experience Team are excited to share our own first:

Still not sure on your resolution? Here are some more ideas:

  • Do a full wardrobe clean out every three months and donate everything that you no longer wear.
  • Be more conscious about your purchases.
  • Don't buy anything from fast fashion retailers.
  • Buy all birthday and Christmas gifts secondhand!
  • Don't send any preloved clothing to landfill - find ways to donate or repurpose items instead of throwing them out.
  • Start learning to mend or 'thrift flip' items in your wardrobe that need an update.

Good luck creating and following your 2023 sustainable resolutions!

See you in the new year!
